Hello from PA Turnpike Mile 128

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

So I’ve been in the car since 8:30 AM… but I’m almost home.. well. another 200 miles or something… Maybe 3-4 hours away from home… Traffic is moving slowly… but yay for my cell phone for the web. Here’s some crappy cell phone pictures… But gosh. I look like crap.

Turkey Fest!

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Hello world. I’m in Cincinnati. OH at my uncle’s. I’ve been doing nothing… and it’s pretty darn cool. We left yesterday morning. I’ll be here till Sunday. We have no Chocolate Turkey this year.

Home.

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Well. I’ve sort of been a traveling gnome for the past week. Here’s the latest.

October 21st - 22nd: FIRST Robotics Show at Salem Community College. I switched video all day.

October 23rd - 24th: Dover Downs for Delaware Division of the Arts Art Summit. I ran sound in a room and was in charge of BEL’s new Rotating Plasma.

October 25th: Day trip to Old Greenwich. CT for a site check of the Hyatt Regency.

October 26th: Dover. DE for some Crestron stuff.

October 27th - 28th: Old Greenwich. CT again for another Neiman Marcus Fashion Show.

Lots of work. little sleep. Yay for gaining an hour today. Boo hiss that I can’t keep it forever.

My feet got smaller. I now wear a size 8. I was 8.5. Any explanations would be great.

Things to do this week:

  • Change the oil in my car. It’s way overdue.
  • Get like 5 websites besides BEL’s up to date.
  • Clean my room.
  • Pay bills… =(
  • Buy myself something new on Tuesday… Suggestions?

My weekend.

Friday, October 7th, 2005

Today: I went to AAA Mid-Atlantic to drop off two Direct TV recievers which I activated for them yesterday. I also had to fix a wireless mic. Then I went to the shop and prepped 3 gigs this weekend and a rental. I then went to UD to setup for the two gigs tomorrow.

Saturday: Be at the shop at 7:45 AM to ride down to University of Delaware to run sound for homecoming weekend stuff. I’ll be loaded out of there and back to the shop around 1 PM to unload the van and load it back up with stuff going to the beach.

Sunday: Be at Dewey Beach. DE at 7 AM to load in for Greyhounds Reach the Beach. Then. we load out of there and I head to Dover Downs in Dover. DE to set up A LOT of power for a Sysco food show.

Monday: I think I am doing sound at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware for a funeral/memorial service. That’s all I know about that gig.

Tuesday: I have something to do… but I’m not sure what… I do know that I have to be back down to Dover Downs to help load out.

I’m beat. I need a day… to sleep.

My last weekend off for a while…

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

Well. it dawned on me pretty late on Friday night that this would
be my last weekend off for quite a while. At least. that’s the way this
month is booked for work.

So. Satuday. I met up Tiffany in Washington. DC… The itinerary went
something like: Wendy’s. Spy Museum. Borders. Starbucks… There was
some kind of Solar Home building contest underway on The Mall… I
hadn’t been to DC in a few years… it doesn’t change that often…I
guess I’m used to NYC and the way it looks and feels a little bit
different every time you go there. The Spy Museum was interesting…
lots of gadgets… most of which are way out of date. but its cool that
they had some of this stuff way back in the day. I bet some of those
people would be blown away with things like camera phones that everyone
has today.

Today. I just replaced the other lift support on my Jeep and added
Dynamat to the lift… That stuff really works… I did the other doors
on Friday night… but I might add more later. I got a whole box of it
on eBay for pretty cheap… I had Joe’s Pizza for dinner… Yum.

So. if you don’t hear from me for a while. here’s why:

October 7th - 9th: Sysco food show thing at Dover Downs. I have no idea
what it involves besides us providing lots of power and we get some
free food. There’s some other gig on Sunday that I know nothing about.

October 23rd-24th: Delaware Art Summit at Dover Downs. We’re doing
audio and video for like 9 rooms in this place. Tons of gear. Tons of
time.

October 26th-28th: Another fashion show. but this one is much bigger
and in Connecticut… I’m not even sure if this date is correct.

October 30th: Somewhere around this date. we have a teleconference with
Hercules from Switzerland. I wish I was going there. but my boss is.
I’ll probably be doing a listen site from Wilmington.

I know there’s tons more I didn’t list… some of what’ll happen I
don’t even know about yet. Oh… joy. I’m going to bed… Hopefully
tomorrow will be easy.

Happy Birthday Emily! Happy October everyone else!

It’s October!! Almost..

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Well. it turns out that its been weeks since I’ve posted. I’ll try to cover interesting and important things. but I’ll definitely forget things.

September 3-5: Rod and I turned 23. We’re old! If you have been out of the loop for the past 23 years. we have the same birthday (the 3rd). My mother took us out sailing on her boat. to Inner Harbor. Baltimore. MD. It was great fun… A nice break from crazy work. We ate at Porter’s on Federal Hill. roamed around the piers. played some expensive arcade games at ESPNZone. and slept!

September 6: Augustana’s album came out!! It’s beautiful. Oh Dan Layus… We roomed together once? Weird. You’re like… famous now… If you haven’t bought the album yet. go do it. Now.

September 13-14: Since everyone was down in Baltimore for Early Stage East. I was left behind to setup a rental (way overkill) at a Walter’s Steakhouse in Wilmington. I then had to go to Hercules Plaza and setup for a Teleconference/Webcast for the next morning. Then I had to go back to the Steakhouse to show them how to use a microphone. “This is a fader. Slide it up to make sound. slide it down to kill it.” The teleconference went OK. After those gigs. I was beat for the rest of the week setting up and moving equipment by myself.

September 21-22: Rod and I went to White Plains. NY to do sound for a Neiman Marcus Fashion Show. It was easy work. but a lot of it. We stayed in a NICE Renaissance Hotel paid for by our client. Yay for nice beds. Unfortunately. I only got 4 hours of sleep that night.

September 23: AIDS Delaware Teen Idol Talent Show. More sound stuff. It was easy. But. I was tired out from the rest of the week. It was a nice way to end it.. A lot of rap… A lot of yelling in my ear… I’ll leave it at that.

September 24: I put new speakers in my Jeep. I tried out Alphine S-Series. but I took them back to Best Buy because I didn’t like them. I got Infinity Kappas. Components in the front. and 2-ways in the back. I had to mod my doors for the tweeters of the components. Maybe I’ll think about a new amp. sub. and reciever someday… I figure if I ditch the Jeep. I can keep the audio stuff right? Since I spent most of my time driving around. it might be worth it.

September 25: Went and saw Corpse Bride. I thought it was pretty good. Typical Tim Burton. quite clever… nothing completely out of the ordinary…. A nice short movie.

Today: I programmed more Crestron stuff in the Conference Center at AAA Mid-Atlantic. I hope its almost done. I hope it works enough to be done. I’m ready to move on. I guess that means I’m learning.

Things to look forward to: Robots comes out tomorrow. I’m getting it… Tomorrow. Cinderella comes out October 4th… which I will be treating myself to as well. I’m sure there’s some great new music coming out soon… I might get the UnderOATH rerelease just for the DVD. I might also get the Straylight Run EP and DVD when they’re out. I bought quite a few CDs this month… Oh. the new Switchfoot is quite good.

I’m going to try to setup MMS posting to my Blog. However. it turns out that Globat doesn’t have Cron Jobs… I might have to complain about that. If I can pull this off. all I have to do is send an e-mail from anywhere or my phone to my blog. and it’ll post immediately. Yay.

Good night.

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

For those of you who check back here often enough to know that I have not updated in 2 weeks… I apologize.

I’ve been busy busy busy with work… among other things. I’m rapidly
teaching myself Crestron programming… which is basically boolean
logic. but its harder than it sounds. I’ve spent most of my time at AAA
in Wilmington getting their Conference rooms and Boardroom
programmed… slowly. I’m getting the hang of it though. I’d like to
get up to Crestron for training… but who knows when that will be. If
I talk to you and just answer with “Yes” or “No”. its because I’ve been
thinking in boolean logic all day.

I haven’t done any web programming in a while. That too is weird.

Some time ago. I was able to meet up with Pennington and Augustana at
Augustana’s first show of the Take Action Tour. That was an adventure.

I’ve bought new music recently.

Days Away - Mapping An Invisible World
Paramore - All We Know Is Falling
Daphne Loves Derby - on the Strength of all Convinced
Minus the Bear - Menos el Oso

They’re all great! Go buy… or at least listen. I’d put links in. but I’m too lazy right now.

I’m further modding my PC case more than it already is. I’m replacing
the black sleeving on the cables to UV Blue. and I added UV Blue SATA
cables. I also painted the front of my drives to match the case. It’s
nifty. Pictures soon.

Tomorrow I am starting my day at AAA to make sure everything is OK in
the Conference rooms if they are needed. Then I’m going to University
of Delaware to be on hand for the New Student Convocation and Pep
Ralley. It’s a huge gig… sort of.

It seems to me like many friends have returned to Greenville. It’s weird… I feel like I’m late getting back.

Rod and I turn 23 in less than a week. This too… is weird.

With the remainer of my night. I may do some cable sleeving… or I might play Guild Wars… or both.

Has it really been a week?

Sunday, August 14th, 2005

So. it’s been over a week since my last post. Boo hiss. I have no
idea how to sum up the past week. It was a mess. I worked a lot… and
I didn’t sleep a lot. I had to train a church on how to use a Yamaha
01V96 on Tuesday night. Afterwards. Rod and I drove to Philly to see
Pennington play. We missed two songs but they still rocked.

Wednesday was amazing. I had to do sound for a press conference in the
morning. During the day I went to Smyrna. DE to program a sound system
That night. I took some sound stuff from work for Pennington’s show in
NJ. Unfortunately. there were only like 5 people there not in bands.
Left Handed Thieves and Pennington were both awesome. Afterwards. we
went to Friday’s… and it was worth every dollar.

Thursday was more sound system prgramming for me. That night I went to
St. Mark’s United Methodist Church to set up a demo sound system. All
was good there.

I spent Friday at AAA learning Crestron control systems. Then. Dexter. Bonnie. and I went to Bennigan’s for dinner. Yummy.

Today. I had to go back out to St. Mark’s for a practice… I took a 6
hour nap. and then Bonnie and I went to Chili’s for dinner. Then.
Dexter. Bonnie. and I went to Delaware Park.

It’s 4:17 AM and I can’t sleep because it’s hot and I’m not really tired.

Comments. I need more.

The news in 15.

Friday, August 5th, 2005

There’s so much new and not enough time to blog about all of it.
So. I’ll give it 15 minutes. Sound fair? If you comment. maybe I’ll
write more and more often. It’s like candy.

So. I made Pennington
100 CDs. I mailed them to Sim’s house last Monday via FedEx. They were
supposed to be there on Tuesday. Long story short. they were returned
to me damaged. and it took a week and a day. I’m filing a claim and and
a complaint. Every single jewel case is cracked or shattered. I’m
exagerating… I checked everyone. It really sucks. The guys are out
touring right now and have no merch. If you’re near any of their dates.
go show them some love.

I got the new Emery CD. called “The Question”.
If my plugins are working right. you should be seeing that I am
listening to it right now. Anyways. its brilliant. Aaron Sprinkle
produced it and JR McNeely mixed it. with the exception of two songs. I
kind of wish they would’ve done Studing Politics. It doesn’t sound bad.
but it doesn’t sound like the rest of the album.

Work has been quiet and slow. but still busy… if that makes any sense I’ve been cleaning up the shop and working on the website. Check it out and let me know what you think. That’s just the template I’m working on. I need to merge phpBB. osCommerce. and Nucleus CMS into one unified login. I also need to get videos on the web. Then. once all of that is done… I need to get a 4D
Database onto the web. I don’t know anything about 4D. Oh well. I know
this doesn’t make any sense to most of you. but that’s OK.

It just dawned on me that I need to do annual checkup and maintenance
on my car soon. Most tasks are supposed to be done every 30.000 miles.
For most people this takes quite a bit of time. However. I did all of
these last June while it was at 210.000 miles. It’s now a year and two
months later. and I’m at 241.000 miles. I keep telling myself that the
work is keeping it running this long. For those of you that don’t know.
its a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limted. It was my mothers… but I’ve
since inherited it. I like it.. and if it keeps running like this…
I’ll keep her till she dies for good.

I can’t believe it’s August already. Where is summer going? For the
first time in my life.. the end of summer doesn’t really mean anything.
I’ll just keep on working. On the other hand. I never stop learning…
and I prefer teaching myself things anyway… so it works out.

So. it’s 2 AM. and you got your 15 minutes… I have to get up at 7:30
AM so I really shouldn’t be up right now. but I took a 2 hour nap
earlier. It’s Friday… and I like that idea. Even better… it’s
payday.

Security. Cool Features Of Firefox Web Browser Beat Microsoft’s IE from The Wall Street Journal.

Check that article out. If you don’t use Mozilla’s Firefox browser yet.
you should be. It’s simply amazing. Tabbed browsing. RSS. Search boxes.
and it’s FAST! It’s also more resistant to stupid IE problems/hacks.

As a web developer. IE has more problems than I can count when it comes
to the ability to display CSS properly. Fixing those bugs comes last
for me. See how some of your favorite sites look in Firefox.
